Travelers' Intercom

Primarily to photograph the country and people of Bhutan in a new and different way, three friends and I booked an 11-day private tour through Third Eye Travel (Fremont, CA; 800/456-3393, www.thirdeyetravel.com).

For all four of us, the total cost of the April 14-24, 2014, tour was $3,900, which included internal flights, hotels, taxes and service charges, all meals, private driver, guided touring and site entry fees.

Our guide, Ms. Sonam Wangmo, and driver, Mr. Dawa, greeted...

Having enjoyed many of the world’s great gardens and floral events, I found the Chiang Mai Thailand Flower Festival via the Internet and discovered that Go See Touring (4/99 Racecourse Rd., Ascot, Queensland 4007, Australia; phone +61 1300 551 997, www.goseetouring.com) had been offering tours to Thailand and the festival for nine years.

From my first email to GiGi Huxley (gigi@goseetouring) until the fabulous farewell dinner our group had in Chiang Mai, our tour and the staff of Go...

On the group tour “Burma: Land of Golden Temples & Floating Gardens” that my husband, Dusty, and I took with Overseas Adventure Travel (Cambridge, MA; 800/955-1925, www.oattravel.com), our guide Kyi Kyi (pronounced Chi Chi) was a gem. (For the tour, Aug. 4-19, 2014, the price for the two of us was $12,188, including both internal and international airfare.)

Early one afternoon in Bagan, Kyi Kyi took our group on an unscheduled visit to a Fullmoon Day festival. We saw people...

While traveling in three countries of the South Caucasus in August-September 2014 (July ’15, pg. 15), I got to sample a wide range of foods.

I visited the Republic of Georgia’s western section on my own with a private guide arranged by MIR Corporation (Seattle, WA; 800/424-7289, www.mircorp.com). I traveled in other parts of Georgia as well as in Armenia and Azerbaijan on a group tour with Original World (San Rafael, CA; 888/367-6147, www.originalworld.com). In each country, our group...

After taking a group tour of Mayan ruins in El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala and Belize, I stayed six extra days in western Belize, Feb. 10-15, 2015, to visit more Mayan sites near the Guatemalan border.

I had contacted several properties for information. The one that was the easiest to work with (and had the best price) was Windy Hill Resort (Graceland Ranch, Western Hwy., San Ignacio, Belize; phone +501 824 2017 or, from the US, 800/946-3995,  www.windyhillresort.com), located at...

My daughter, Cate, and her daughter, Frances, and I arrived at Mexico City (aka México, D.F.) in the evening and chose to stay right in Benito Juarez International Airport’s Terminal 1 at the Courtyard Mexico City Airport — Marriott (phone +52 55 4631 4000).

If you happen to arrive in Terminal 2, which is a 10-minute drive from Terminal 1, you’ll find that many hotels have offices in the main area and will swiftly shuttle you in their vans.

At the Marriott, the cost for two...

Philip Wagenaar keeps Immigration officers from using up his passport pages too quickly by putting rubber bands around the blank pages he doesn’t want stamped (Aug. ’15, pg. 49).

I’ve been putting colorful sticky notes on pages I don’t want stamped. I remove them as I need to to free up more pages to be stamped.

I’ve had no complaints from officials, but once in a while I’ve caught an agent lifting some notes up to peek underneath!

I read the subscriber’s letter “Care of a Tilley Hat” (June ’15, pg. 24). I’ve been wearing Tilley hats for 20-plus years. The first one I had I wore so much it totally wore out. The second one, a replacement under their guarantee, was stolen in Tangier over 15 years ago. I’m now on number three, a blue one.
