In the first attack on tourists in Egypt since 2006, two South Korean tourists, a South Korean guide and an Egyptian bus driver were killed by a suicide bomber who boarded a tour bus in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula on Feb. 16. The security climate in Saudi Arabia continues to improve, despite an attack of unknown motivation on the vehicle of two German Embassy officials in the Awamiyah section of the al-Qatif Governate in the Eastern Province on the night of Jan. 13. There were no injuries in the shooting. The US government recommends avoiding the Awamiyah area.

The US Department of State warns of a high threat of terrorism and kidnapping in Algeria. The majority of terrorist attacks, including bombings, false roadblocks, kidnappings and ambushes, occur in areas of the country east and south of Algiers.
