Cell phone rentals for Japan

I'm heading for Japan next month and need to rent a cell phone as my usual GSM travel phone will not work there. Has anyone used Cellhire before? They seem to have the best rates. Any other companies recommended? I will just need it for occasional calls within Japan for last minute travel arrangements and to call home to U.S. or receive calls from home.
