Long term visa for Schengen Zone

<p>My wife and I are planning an extended trip to Europe later this year and plan on staying and traveling around for approximately 1&nbsp;year.We have not planned an itinerary and hope to keep a &quot;flexible&quot; schedule.Our concern is that it appears that the Schengen Zone only allows stays of 90 days in a 180 day period and we cannot find an easy way to extend the time period allowed. Any suggestions on what to do or who to contact&nbsp;are greatly appreciated.&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p>
