I'm getting ready to book a car rental for two weeks in Ireland. I will not be driving the car. My stepson will do the driving. I want to pay everything in advance, including the broad coverage CDW. Can anyone explain the reason the car rental agency will not let me pay with my own credit card and will not put the "hold" on my own credit card, but insists that the credit card used must be in the name of the driver? Yes, I know I can just write a check to my stepson for the amount, but I can't understand why this rule is in place if all is paid up front and liability is dispensed with by purchase of the CDW. The Hertz representative didn't seem to know why this policy was in place. I know I have to do it, but I just want to know the logic behind it!
