I plan on taking my new Nordic walking sticks to Switzerland next month. Can I take them as carry-on or must I check them in my baggage on international air carriers? I couldn't find a listing for walking sticks on the TSA info. My sticks have rubber feet on the tips.

Walking sticks
If they are collapsible, they should fit diagonally in most check-in luggage. That is what we have done. I wouldn't count on being able to take them as a carry-on.

Thank you for your reply. From other responses, I will be fitting them in my checked luggage.

Berner Oberland great hikes
Love them and we pack them in checked luggage. No reason to take a chance and find out they won't accept them as carryon - rubber feet or not. Virtually all Swiss use their berg stocks so you will fit right in. God love them for the extra stability they offer as well as spreading the hiking stress away from the knees and on to the upper body. Best of all because you have this three-point balance you can spend more time looking at the scenery than at your feet.
Have done quite a bit of hiking myself in Switzerland - where are you going and which trails have you chosen? I have a few favorites: The Faulhorn from Grindelwald/First to Schynige Platte was the best and I want to go back and stay in the Faulhorn Berg Hotel for sunrise one of these days. The Rothorn is also fantastic. We loved staying at the Hostellerie Linderhof in Brienz in the Berner Oberland with their half-board package that included some local travel passes and access to their pool and sauna -- great food there and quirky rooms - The Cheese Room was our favorite.

Thank you for your comments. This will be my first experience with using the "berg stocks" and I am looking forward to it. We have rented the lower apartment in a chalet in Lauterbrunnen and plan on exploring the trails in the area. We have enjoyed the Schynige Platte trail from the Wengen approach--using the lift up to the trailhead. We also enjoy the trails in the Murren area. So lovely trails with gorgeous views of Britehorn.
