Hello: has anyone had experience with Caravan Tours' trip to Panama? I realize it is a mainstream company, with probably large groups, but I would like to combine it with an OAT trip to Colombia and Caravan has so many departure dates that it would be an easy fit. Thank you for any and all comments.

Caravan Tours for Panama
I took the Caravan tour of Panama last September. This was my first experience with this company and would highly recommend this tour. The hotels were very nice [ I travel as a single and was happy with large accommodations ] and the meals were mostly buffet but unusually good. They supplied water all day on the bus while touring. The guide was young and well informed. There was time on your own after reaching a hotel for exploring the immediate area. This tour was fully booked but most people were well traveled so there were no hold ups for departing to or leaving a sightseeing stop. I feel I got more than my moneys worth and have booked another Caravan tour for May, 2012.

I have not traveled to Panama with Caravan, but I took one of their trips to Mexico (which is currently no longer offered). I thought it was a good deal for the price. The hotels were good and well-located; all meals were included, unfortunately it was mainly "tourist food," but that is to be expected on a mainstream tour. The tour leader was excellent.
The negative points are that it was a very large group, my tour bus was completely full. And it is a generic-type tour.
However, even with those negatives, I have been searching for an inexpensive, short trip for the fall and I have been looking at the Caravan trips for Costa Rica and Panama.
