we are taking a river cruise (2 Couples) next year from Budapest to Cologne, but we are not taking the the Flights organized by the Cruise Line. we plan on arvg Budapest about 3 days early. Do you know where the Cruise ships dock in Budapest and any Hotel recommendations, Thank You

I’ve stayed at two hotels in Budapest and each was good in its own way:

Hilton Budapest - Castle District

http://www3.hilton.com/en/hotels/hungary/hilton-budapest-hotel-BUDHITW/i...

This is at the very top of Castle Hill and if you are staying here, make sure you reserve a room with a view of the river and of the Parliament Building - which spectacular at night. You are minutes away from many attractions: Fishermans Bastion, the Cathedral, Royal Palace and several museums. This hotel attracts large tour and cruise groups.

Orion Hotel (a Best Western)

This is at the foot of the same hill, close to the Elizabeth Bridge which takes you to the main part of the city. It is a friendly, clean, safe hotel with an helpful reception staff and a nice buffet breakfast. Rooms are nice. It is about a 15 min. walk UP the hill to the castle and the Hilton area. There are not really any views of the hotel -- the front rooms face the buildings across the street, and the back rooms face a church.

Thank you Joe for the information.By any chance do you know were the Cruiseships dock

in relation to the Hotels.?

TTFN

Thanks again

Mine docked near the Elizabeth Bridge. In fact, the first night was on the boat and it did not leave Budapest until mid-day the next day. You could ask your cruise company for this information. Budapest is a great city to explore. Vaci Street is a long pedestrian street with shops, cafes, etc and also very crowded with a lot of tourists. St. Michaels Church on Vaci Street presents concerts several evenings a week. Also if you have time, the Gellert Baths are a good experience.

address is Bem Rakpart 16-19, and it is right on the river across from Parliament.

Truly an amazing hotel, with THE most amazing breakfast (included) in the price. It is also by the Chain Bridge, and not far from the Elizabeth Bridge.

This had a large room, original art, and our views of the Fisherman's Bastion were spectacular. it is the only place i stay whenever I am in Budapest.

While the Hilton is nice, it's up on Castle Hill, and while nice to visit, not exactly the place to stay to really see Budapest.

This is one of the few Rick Steves suggests that I agree with.
