Favorite B&B in Rome
This item appears on page 16 of the July 2019 issue.
During my frequent travels over the past 20 years to and through Rome, Italy, most recently in April 2019, I’ve stayed in a small B&B named Residenza Risorgimento (Piazza Risorgimento 59, Rome; phone +39 06 686 4375, residenzarisorgimento.it/en).
With six rooms and one apartment, the B&B is in a perfect location for sightseeing. The piazza on which it’s located is right at the Vatican City wall. Turn left and walk two blocks and you’re in Saint Peter’s Square; turn right and walk two blocks and you’re at the entrance to the Vatican Museums.
The piazza is also a transportation hub for many bus routes and the tram system, and it’s only a few blocks away from the Ottaviano Metro station.
In the B&B, each hotel room is small but clean, with a modern bathroom, a television, a refrigerator and Wi-Fi. Breakfast is charmingly Italian; one gets a coupon for cappuccino or coffee and pastry at the nearby coffee bar.
If you book directly with the manager, Dragos (phone/Whats App +39 3341670053 or email info@residenzarisorgimento.it,), the accommodations cost about €85 (near $95) a night, and you don’t have to pay in advance. Booking agencies will charge much more.
As an added bonus, Old Bridge Gelateria (gelateriaoldbridge.com/en), reputed to be the best gelateria in Rome, is located at the head of the piazza. Judging from the long lines of people (including me) waiting to order, it must be so! The line is worth your time.
