A magnitude-8.0 earthquake struck Peru’s north-central region of Loreto on May 26, killing two people and injuring 26. It was the strongest earthquake in Peru since 2007.
Though the quake was felt across the country as well as in neighboring Colombia and Ecuador, the epicenter was in a sparsely populated area in the Amazon, so structural damage was limited.
