Ebola in DR Congo

The World Health Organization declared an outbreak of ebola in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) on May 12 after 19 people in the northeastern region of the country were suspected of becoming ill with ebola. Three of them died, with ebola infections being confirmed for two.

At press time, no more cases had been reported, leading the Congolese government to declare the outbreak, on June 2, “under control.”

An ebola outbreak in Western Africa from 2014 to 2015 killed more than 11,000 people, mostly in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia. Ebola killed more than 40 people in the DRC in 2014.
