Afghanistan threats

The US Department of State warns that travel to all areas of Afghanistan remains unsafe due to the ongoing risk of kidnapping, banditry, militant and insurgent attacks, suicide bombings, armed rivalry between political and tribal groups, military combat operations, and land mines. 

Extremists associated with various militant groups, such as the Taliban, Daesh and other armed opposition groups, are active throughout the country. Commercial entities, restaurants, hotels and airports may be targeted.

On March 1, Taliban insurgents conducted an attack on two police stations in the Kabul area, killing seven and wounding 24. 

On March 8, Daesh attacked the Afghan National Army Hospital in Kabul City, killing more than 50 people and wounding more than 90.

On April 21, at least 140 Afghani soldiers were killed when Taliban insurgents dressed as soldiers attacked an army base near the city of Mazar-e-Sharif in northern Afghanistan.
