In Assam State, northeastern India, on Aug. 5, gunmen opened fire on and threw at least one grenade within a busy outdoor market just outside of the town of Kokrajhar. Thirteen people were killed, and there were reports of multiple civilian injuries. One gunman was also killed by police.
Police blamed the attack on the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), a separatist group seeking to create an independent nation for the Bodo people.
