Iranian-Americans’ risk of detention in Iran

The US Department of State warns of the risk of arrest and detention of travelers to Iran, most particularly dual national Iranian-Americans, who continue to be detained or prevented from leaving Iran, in some cases for months, when traveling there for personal or professional reasons.

The US government does not have diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran and cannot provide protection or routine consular services to US citizens there. The Swiss government, through its embassy in Tehran, serves US interests in Iran.
