Daesh in Iraq

At least nine people were killed and 20 injured when a car bomb exploded on a market street in central Baghdad, Iraq, on Sept. 9. The Islamist militant group Daesh (ISIL) claimed responsibility for the attack.
Three separate bombings in Baghdad on Sept. 26 killed at least eight people and injured at least 25. Daesh claimed responsibility for only one, a suicide bombing at a prayer tent in western Baghdad that killed six. Another of the bombs was placed on a bus.
On Sept. 27, two suicide bombers targeted Shia Muslim areas in the Jadida and Baiyaa areas of Baghdad, killing 17 people and wounding more than 50. Daesh claimed responsibility for both bombings.

As of press time, Iraqi and Kurdish forces, with assistance from allied air support, were preparing to retake the city of Mosul, the largest city in Iraq under Daesh control.
