Beijing ‘trolley’ tours
This item appears on page 5 of the October 2016 issue.
Visitors to Beijing, China, can hitch a ride on modern buses styled to look like Dangdang trolley cars, which ran in Beijing from 1924 to 1966. Passengers are taken on a 6-mile route with 15 stops, including the Palace Museum, Tiananmen Square and Qianmen (gate). An English-speaking guide is present on each bus to describe the sites along the tour.
Buses run 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. seven days a week, picking passengers up every five to ten minutes at 21 marked bus stops, including at Qianmin, East or West Tiananmen Square and two stops at the Forbidden City. Bus fare is CNY15 (near $2.40).
