Memorializing slavery and the slave trade in the Caribbean, the Mémorial ACTe slavery museum (Darboussier, Rue Raspail, Pointe-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe, FWI; phone +590 590 25 16 00, www.memorial-acte.fr/home-page.html) opened on the French-Caribbean island of Guadeloupe on July 7.
Six sections follow the history of slavery, from the pre-slavery New World through post-abolition to today. There are also two restaurants, space for temporary art installations and a memorial park. Open 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Tues.-Thurs., 9-8 Fri.-Sat. & 10-6 Sun. Closed Mon. Entry, €15 (near $17). Audio tours are available in English, French, Spanish and Creole.
