Security at Kenya airports
This item appears on page 69 of the March 2014 issue.
No one was hurt at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, Kenya, when in the early-morning hours of January 17 an IED tossed from a car exploded in a trash can outside a coffee shop, nor when smoke grenades were found in an airport toilet on Jan. 10.
As a result, however, vehicles being driven into all entry points of airports within Kenya now will face security checkpoints and searches. Extra lanes and check stations have not yet been opened, so, especially at the Nairobi airport, plan to arrive an hour ahead of your usual arrival time, that is, four hours before an international flight instead of the usual three.Â
