Lisbon-Cacilhas ferry

In Portugal, Cacilheiros are orange-and-white ferryboats that make the 15-minute run over the Tagus River from Lisbon’s Terminal Fluvial do Cais do Sodré to the parish of Cacilhas daily, several times an hour, from sunrise to sunset. A one-way ticket costs €1.20 (near $1.65).

Cacilhas is more like a typical Portuguese coastal village than a neighborhood of a large city. In addition to many seafood restaurants (Aira-te-ao Rio, O Farol and A Cacilheira, to name a few), all with excellent views of Lisbon proper, of interest is the Church of our Lady of Bom Sucesso as well as Quinta do Almaraz, an important Phoenician archaeological site. 

You also can take an elevator to the top of the 270-foot platform on which stands the 90-foot Cristo-Rei (with pedestal, 360 feet tall), a copy of Rio de Janeiro’s 98-foot-tall Christ the Redeemer statue (with pedestal, 124 feet tall).
