Heathrow transfers

Whilst I hesitate to recommend a totally reliable firm or individual for Heathrow transfers, I have suggested to friends visiting from the US that they try the Internet (as I have done, despite being a raw beginner with this technology). Just “Google” some appropriate phrase, such as “London Heathrow cabs,” and try a few of the listed sites.

I came up with prices under £40 (near $62) for central London and around £45 out to Wimbledon (where I live). My friend used one of these and was very happy with the price and service, but some companies change hands, so it’s best to check each time.

It might be worthwhile to check firms local to where you regularly stay and then get established with them for the future. Some may, however, charge extra for airport pickups, as it usually involves parking and waiting.

Having said that, be sure to check all prices quoted on the Net to make sure they include any airport pickup surcharges. When I tried in early November, some were inclusive and some were not, but the actual total costs were very similar.

Using a firm that has drivers based close to the airport tends to be advantageous, particularly if that is their main source of business. They usually will have someone nearby who can be relied on to get there even if traffic is bad.

We usually use Gatwick Airport and have found a local firm (Carline) which reach you within 10 minutes of phoning them once you have your bags and are through Customs. It takes this amount of time to walk to the pickup point that they clearly describe.

If you can find such firms near Heathrow that offer a similar “on demand” service, this is probably the most reliable pickup that you can get. If there is a problem, you know immediately and can ask for another company.

As stated earlier, I am an untutored user of the Net but find that a few words in the search engine yields great results. Surfing on behalf of friends, I discovered that I, too, can get “2 for 1” admissions to many of London’s expensive attractions simply because we go into central London by train. Type in “2 for 1” and look at the rail site. You could save a packet!
